I always wanted to share my life with a daughter and whilst my journey was along the path less trodden, I would not have it any other way.
Just getting Lily into my life took time and perseverance. I was pregnant at fifty and had her just after my 51st birthday.... it is never too late! I had left a corporate world and food marketing consultancy work to focus on the process of having a baby and my efforts were rewarded in spades. I am fortunate to be able to focus on her more than most and have valued that time together.
I chose to move from London, where I had been living for over 30 years and to move back to my hometown in Yorkshire. Never have I made a better decision. We have the most incredible facilities, activities and countryside to embark on our adventures together.
I was asked by Lily's teachers to do a talk on healthy eating and given my background, I realised that most of what I cook is not what others do. My food education and work taught me that sugar really is the enemy to good health and I worked hard to give Lily great food without that added ingredient. Sampling dishes with the class brought on lots of calls for me to share recipes and ideas for food, so here I share some with you too.
In addition, as a single mum it is very important for me to organise activities and travel for us to do together especially over the long holidays. I like to embrace what is out there from theatre to dance, sports to excursions, museums to crafts and everything else in between. We will travel to areas and spend a few days exploring different things and I realise again that this gives me a great perspective to share with others what we enjoy doing and how we achieve it.
In addition, I think travel abroad is a great educator and knowing how important travel is, I recently trained as an independent travel agent. Now I can not only book more trips for ourselves, but share that with you all by booking your trips too!
So if any of that is of interest to you then subscribe to my blog and follow me on instagram where I will be sharing stories and ideas that will hopefully inspire you... and it would be great to hear back what you are up to so I can follow in your footsteps too.
The aim will always be to create a life for Lily that is full of fun, adventure, experiences and learning to that she can decide what she loves to do and then fulfil herself as she grows in this world that we live in.
